MRC submits input on Malta’s progress in implementing ECRI’s recommendations

At the beginning of the month, the Malta Refugee Council (MRC) has submitted its input to the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) as part of the interim follow-up process reviewing Malta’s implementation of key anti-racism and integration recommendations.

This process follows the publication of ECRI’s sixth monitoring cycle report on Malta in June 2024. As part of its monitoring framework, ECRI conducted a mid-term review focusing on a limited number of priority recommendations, requesting both state authorities and civil society organisations to provide updates on progress achieved.

The focus was made on two priority areas:

1. The establishment of an independent equality body

2. The development of a comprehensive integration strategy

The interim follow-up process represents an important opportunity to assess whether meaningful progress has been made since the publication of the 2024 report. Through its submission, the MRC contributes to ensuring that the perspectives and experiences of organisations working directly with migrants and affected communities are taken into account.
